HUNGER IN AMERICA 2014 TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 18
Second Harvest volunteer and staff surveyed clients at food pantries and soup kitchens over a four month period last year for the Hunger in America 2014 Hunger Study. We talked face to face with individuals receiving food assistance from Second Harvest Food Bank agencies and gathered facts about why they needed help with food. Our data was submitted to Feeding America for Hunger in America 2014 , the nation’s largest and most comprehensive insight into charitable food distribution in the United States.
Conducted every four years by Feeding America since 1993, the Hunger Studies provide statistically-valid data on our food distribution network and the people Feeding America serves. This, in turn, helps food banks and charitable feeding organizations develop programs that best support individuals facing hunger. The results also inform the public policy discourse so that federal nutrition programs can better serve those in need. Please visit www.netfoodbank.org for a report of our local findings to be released later this month.
